Surabaya, provincial capital of East Java and Indonesia’s second largest city, served for over half a millenium as trading port for the inland empires of Java. Situated at the mouth of the Brantas River, the city was officially founded in 1293 when raden Wijaya established Majapahit, Indonesia’s most glorious empire on the site of a legendary battle between a shark (sura) and crocodile (baya).

Surabaya, known as the “City of Heroes” because of its role in nation’s independence struggle, has grown into an elegant city of large, colonnaded buildings bordering broad, tree shaded avenues. It serves as the commercial centre of athriving industrial and agricultural hinterland. The city’s historical sites include Kali Mas harbour with its tall-mastered trading schooners and, nearby, the narrow alleyways and shops of the Arab quarter, redolent of the Middle East.

The historic Hotel Majapahit, where Indonesia’s war of independence was begun, and the elegant Grahadi State Buildings, an 18th century mansion, have been restored as monuments to an era of colonial grace. Surabaya is also home to one of Southeast Asia’s oldest and largest zoos. For travelers in East Java , Surabaya serves as a convenient base for exploring the regions many charms, including Mt. Bromo, the cool mountain retreats of Tretes and Malang and the natural wonders of several nature reserves.

DAY 02 :SURABAYA – JUANDA AIRPORT (B)

After having breakfast, free at your own activity until the time to be transfered to Juanda Airport for you next destination.

Surabaya is the second largest city in indonesia after Jakarta,wellknown as the Heroes City. A tall and proud memorial monument stands in the center of the main city, to commemorate the heroes who died in the independence war on the 10th of November 1945. surabaya is the center of government and businness activities in the Eastern part of indonesia and is the naval base of indonesia. Tanjung Perak Harbour with the daily activities and specific Buginese and colourful Madurese praos.
Other interesting places are The Zoo- it is considered one of the most complete Zoo’s in South East Asia, welkome with it’s Comodo Dragon Lizard, the biggest lizards in the world.

Kayoon Flower Market, where you can find many kinds of flowers, which are used to express your feelings, decorations and sometimes are used for traditional offering ceremonies.

Malang, a place to relax with a nice cool climate, it is probably the most attractive town in East Java. With many old buildings dating back to the Dutch time, making your trip memorable. 20Km west of Malang is Batu- The little Switzerland of java, as named by foreigners-is really enjoyeble. It is now known as a cabbage and apple town. Close to batu is Selecta, with is beautiful garden and swimming pool, breath- taking and colourful roses.
At the northern part of Malang, the remmants of Singosari Kingdom can be seen, as well as the Singosari Temple, and the two monstrous carved figures of Dwarapala, wich is built in the- 12th cetury after the violent death of its last King Kartanegar

Penataran, the biggest Hindu temple complex in Est Java. It is spriad over in an open air field. Bas- reliefes on the main temple tells the story of Gagak Aking and Dewi Sri Tanjung.
The small temple, perfect in detail, has become the symbol of Est Java and it is also used on the badge of military division. It is one of the largest santuaries remains from the Majapahit and yhe Kediri Kingdom (12-15th century) located in the Ngelegok village Blitar, on the south Western Slope of the Kelud Mountain.
On the way home, we will visit the burial place of the burial place of the first president, or the Republic of Indonesia: Soekarno, and Karangkates Dan near Wilingi.
